I had to sit through almost a three hour discussion of the merits of communism and central planning. While we were talking about committed lefties like Charles Beard and Edmund Wilson I couldn't help but think of Frederich Hayek's The Road to Serfdom. Hayek, correctly, argued that a planned economy will always lead to serfdom and slavery.
